DAJRHAS Serves as National Consultant for Action Against Hunger–EU Study on Innovative Agricultural Practices in The Lake Chad Region

Location: Lake Chad Basin

Dajrhas Health and Agric Development Ltd served as National Consultant for a major regional study on Innovative Agricultural Practices in the Lake Chad Region, implemented by Action Against Hunger (ACF International) with sponsorship support from the European Union.

The consultancy was conducted between March and July 2019 and coincided with World Water Day, observed annually on 22 March under the global coordination of UN Water, with the 2019 theme, “Leaving No One Behind.” The alignment underscored the growing recognition of water security, inclusive agricultural systems, and resilience-building in fragile and conflict-affected regions.

The Lake Chad Region remains one of the most environmentally and socioeconomically vulnerable areas in Africa, characterized by declining water resources, climate variability, food insecurity, and livelihood disruptions. The study focused on identifying, documenting, and assessing innovative, water-sensitive, and climate-adaptive agricultural practices capable of improving food security, strengthening livelihoods, and enhancing resilience among affected communities.

As National Consultant, Dajrhas led the technical design and implementation support for the study, including stakeholder engagement, field-level assessments, analytical reporting, and policy-oriented recommendations. The assignment emphasized participatory approaches, ensuring that local farmers, water users, and vulnerable groups were actively reflected in both data collection and interpretation, consistent with the World Water Day principle of inclusivity.

Key thematic areas covered in the study included sustainable water use in agriculture, climate-resilient farming practices, small-scale irrigation innovations, soil and water conservation techniques, and institutional arrangements supporting equitable access to productive resources. Particular attention was given to practices that bridge humanitarian response and long-term development in protracted crisis settings.

The findings contributed to Action Against Hunger’s evidence base for programme design and policy advocacy in the Lake Chad Basin, while also supporting European Union–funded efforts to strengthen resilience, food systems, and environmental sustainability in the region.

Speaking on the engagement, Dajrhas emphasized that “sustainable agriculture in fragile contexts must be built around water security, local innovation, and inclusion, ensuring that no community is excluded from development pathways.”

This assignment further reflects Dajrhas’ growing role in delivering high-quality research, advisory, and analytical services for international development partners, particularly in the areas of agriculture, water resources, climate resilience, and food systems in vulnerable regions.
